Imbued with the wisdom of the ages, the ultra-high-grade, ultra-minimal design and tonal-flexibility of the Duesenberg The Senior waves the banner for 'Clean design, dirty Tone', while paying homage to its vintage roots. While this clean, single-cut electric guitar guarantees raw and gut-punching sound, it has plenty of other tricks hidden up its refined sleeves. The newly-developed Duesenberg SplitKing humbucker has been finished with a fifties-radio-esque grille and grants access to three different foundations: fully single-coil, fully humbucker, or a heady blend of the two. Flip through the three settings using the old, switch-board style dial-switch mounted on the shoulder.
The Senior: All Eyes on the Detail
To keep the weight down and ensure maximum resonance, the mahogany body has been chambered, immediately elevating it above most standard solid-body models. Every example has then undergone a special Duesenberg Plek process, where every guitar is checked, refined and set up by hand by experienced luthiers, finally marking each piece with their signature. The result is a superb instrument, free of fret buzz, that plays like a butter-smooth dream. Since a guitar with credentials like this demands solid protection with a touch of style, it comes including a Duesenberg Custom Line case.

Mijn eerste Duesenberg gitaar.
Met een goede korting bij Bax Amsterdam gekocht als b-stock omdat de koffer ontbrak.
Dat doet echter aan de gitaar niets af, geen koffer haha!
Prachtige kleurstelling, subliem afgewerkt, mooie klassieke ‘52 binding om body en headstock, prachtige tuners het zijn net als de knoppen en het D-logo op de body ware Duitse kunstwerkjes.
Ingeplugd, de Custom 10-50 nickelwound snaren zo uit de zowaar op stemming, intonatie perfect, frets supershiny en vliegensvlug, prachtig donker rosewood fretboard, spelen maar!
Ondanks mijn idee dat een single coil brug pickup altijd schel klinkt à la telecaster is dit hier niet het geval, integendeel, het varieert van mooi sprankelend in de clean stand tot een heerlijke vervorming bij wat overdrive. Het tussenstandje geeft iets meer punch iets tussen P90 en een Gretsch Hilotron in en op de humbucker stand kun je met de volumepot perfect regelen hoe vet je rocksound moet klinken.
Het is een beetje een mix tussen een Billy Gibbons sound en Edward van Halen.
Voor ik het in de gaten had was ik anderhalf uur verder en had ik een heleboel muziekstijlen uitgeprobeerd op het uiterst spartaanse maar uitgekiend vernuftige apparaat. Van funk tot reggae, van Deep Purple’s Strange Kind of Women tot Chic, van Santana tot Eddy Van Halen, van Traveling Wilburys tot Lenny Kravitz, van ZZtop tot Drivin’ home for Christmas, het houdt maar niet op!!
Wat een ontzettend veelzijdig instrument!
En wat een sound!
